The project team focuses on development of advanced statistical models for estimating probabilities of climate extremes. This is highly topical issue, particularly in relation to climate change and increased occurrence of climatic extremes in Central Europe in recent years, mainly precipitation extremes with large negative effects on human society. Development of statistical models of extremes that allow for 1) incorporating dependence on time and other covariates, and 2) using available data in space for improving estimates in individual locations or grid boxes, is one of the key issues of current climatology and statistics.
The interdisciplinary project will result in closer relations of ongoing research in the Czech Republic to international activities and research groups abroad. It links scientists working in different fields of mathematical statistics and climatology, and enhances the overall knowledge on up-to-date methods applicable into modelling of extremes among the Czech scientific community and students.
